I have never done yoga before? Can I have a Private Lesson?

Yes. My yoga classes are suitable for all levels and perfect for beginners. Starting yoga is the perfect way to make a change in your life and get in great shape from the inside out.

What benefits will I get from doing yoga?

Improved general fitness, flexibility, a great detox, muscle tone, strength, improved digestion, improved sleeping cycle, a general calm and happiness, improved concentration, time for yourself, an understanding of your own body and mind, stronger bones, weight loss or weight management and healthier internal organs are a few of the benefits.

I am not flexible! Can I do yoga?

You do not need to be flexible to do yoga. Yoga will work to increase your flexibility and mobility but we all need to start from somewhere! Every pose has a starting point that is suitable for the most stiff!

Will yoga help me to loose weight?

If you are looking to loose weight then my yoga lessons will be perfect for you. Every class will take you through a series of poses designed to work every part of your body including the cardiovascular system meaning you will burn calories whilst increasing muscle mass and improving your metabolism. We will also work by massaging your internal organs and stimulating the thyroid and digestive system to promote weight loss. Yoga will help to balance your hormones and keep you energised leaving you wanting lighter meals without even thinking about it.

How many calories will I burn in a yoga lesson?

The average person will burn between 350 and 600 calories per hour depending on body weight. If you want a 90 minute session you will burn between 500 and 900 calories.

Will yoga make me muscled?

Yoga will improve your strength and build muscle however you will not become bulky. Yoga creates long and lean muscles similar to those of a dancer. Muscle tone will improve very quickly and you will develop a strong core, lower and upper body strength. Yoga also works the stabilising muscles and all the little muscles that you never knew existed meaning you will get a balanced strength.

However, if you are a man my yoga classes will work to help you get the muscles you always dreamed of. The style of yoga that I teach stems from the Bishnu Ghosh lineage and was specially developed for body building. Together we can work at stripping fat and building perfectly sculpted muscle.

How often should I do yoga?

Most people can build up to a daily practice but I recommend starting with at least one or two private lessons a week. I can provide you with material to help you practice on your own in between if wanted.

What other lifestyle changes will I have to make?

You will not have to make any other lifestyle choices. If wanted I can provide you with advice on diet and general ways to make you feel happier and healthier but yoga is a great start. You might well find that yoga changes your life so much that small things start to happen on there own and you will be on your way to a much better life without any conscious effort. As with any sport it is important thatyou drink enough water;

I have a medical condition or injury. Can I do yoga?

Yoga can help with rehabilitation of injuries and with many medical conditions however you will be required to ask your doctor if it is ok for you to practise yoga with any existing condition or injury.

Do I have to be a certain age to practise yoga?

Yoga is for all ages however my lessons are not suitable for children who are still growing as we will work deep into the muscles. There is no age limit for my lessons. Yoga makes you young at heart!

If you wouls like to practise as a family the yoga poses can be adapted for children but this will compromise your workout.

Can I do yoga if I am pregnant?

If you have never done yoga before I do no advise taking this style of yoga. Yoga can really help prepare your body for birth but it is best to take a specifically designed course for pregnancy. The body becomes soft and more flexible during pregnancy meaning it is easier to injure yourself and your baby. If you have been working with me for a long time and your body is already strong your lesson can be adapted to suit pregnancy however you might find it better to rest during the first trimester and then take up yoga again in the later stages of your pregnancy.

After pregnancy most of us want to get back into shape as quickly as possible. Yoga can help with this but it is advisable to take it easy for the first 6 months whilst your hormone levels get back to normal.

Can I do yoga if I have an addiction?

Yoga can help you overcome any addiction however you may not undergo a lesson if you are under the influence of alcohol or any illegal substance. If you are in a period of rehabilitation then yoga will help you to achieve focus and calm whilst healing your body and mind.

Is yoga a religion?

No absolutely not. Yoga is thought to have originated in India as part of the Hindu philosophy however requires no religious practice or belief. Hatha Yoga or Asana (which is the physical yoga that is mainly taught today) is only one of the eight limbs of yoga leading to enlightenment. Yoga does not incorporate any worship and is compatible with any religion or belief. I will not incorporate any spirituality into my lessons as we will be focusing on the exercises. Even so, yoga is a form of meditation and will leave you feeling calm and better connected. I can also include a more specific meditation element in your lesson aimed at relaxation.

Is yoga compatible with other sports?

Yoga will help you with all other sports. Yoga is great for runners and fooball players as they tend to have tight leg muscles. Golfers will find that yoga can really help improve their game, focusing on developing a better swing and can also help with tennis. Yoga will improve your agility, flexibitlity, strength and all round fitness meaning that your performance in any sport should improve quickly.

What should I wear?

You are advised to wear something that fits to the body and that is flexible so as not to compromise your movement. There are special clothes for yoga but leggings, shorts and tank tops or slim fit t-shirts are fine. Jogging bottoms and hoodies are not really suitable as they can get in the way. You will not need shoes to practice yoga. Ladies or gentlemen with long hair should tie their hair up.

What do I need for my lesson?

You will need a water bottle, a small towel and a mat. If you do not have a mat you can hire one from me for £2.

Do I need to do anything before my first lesson?

Yes. You will need to sign a form stating that you take responsibility for your own actions and informing me of whether you have any existing medical conditions, whether you are taking any medication, whethr you are pregnant or if you have any objections to being physically adjusted. We will also have a friendly discussion to talk about what it is you are hoping to get from your yoga lesson.

How can I pay for my yoga lesson?

You can pay using cash, cheque or paypal. All payments must be recieved before your lesson.

What happens if I miss my lesson or if I want to change the time?

If you are going to miss your lesson you must let me know no less than 24hrs before the time. If there is more than one person in your lesson then it will still go ahead at the full price. If you want to change your lesson you must also let me know at least 24hrs before the alleged time and it can be changed according to my availability.

I have bought 10 classes. Do they have to be at the same time every week?

No but I recommend getting your body into a routine. It is best to book the classes in advance at a time that will always suit you.
